Innovative, up-to-date and cutting-edge training and education are crucial to preparing all firefighters to safely and effectively perform their duties. The Fire Commission, State Fire Rescue Training and the NRPC are committed to this effort. October 6-10 marked the first week-long course titled “Basic Firefighting for New Recruits” hosted at the NRPC located at the Wendell H. Ford Regional Training Center (WHFRTC) in Greenville, Ky. Fourteen students from Paducah, Hopkinsville and Elizabethtown Fire Departments completed the course. Class capacity is 25 students. Class fees include materials, lodging on base at WHFRTC and meals at the base dining facility. The next class will be held January 19-23, and is expected to be at capacity with new recruits from at least five fire departments from across the Commonwealth.
